From the Editor’s Desk
Good morning, Jefferson County, and welcome to this Monday Edition of The Jefferson Review.
We hope everyone had a chance to make it out to the Kimmswick Strawberry Festival this weekend. We went on Sunday, and while it was definitely hot, it was a great time walking through town, visiting vendors, meeting old friends, and making a few new ones along the way. There is just something special about seeing one of our river towns full of families, small businesses, volunteers, public safety workers, and neighbors all enjoying a weekend together.
In today’s edition, we take a look at the festival weekend in Kimmswick, a legislative breakfast where state budget and tax issues were front and center, and a Jefferson County Council work session where stormwater policy and flooding concerns came back into focus. We also have a local opinion piece on judicial elections, upcoming government meetings, weather for the week ahead, and an adoptable pet who is still waiting for the right person to find her.
One of Jefferson County’s favorite weekend traditions brought steady crowds, local vendors, food, shuttle traffic, and small-town hospitality back to Kimmswick.
Local lawmakers discussed taxes, roads, public safety, and state budget priorities, but one of the biggest questions in the room centered on who was not there.
When the next heavy rain hits Jefferson County, where does all that water go? County leaders are beginning to ask whether the current stormwater rules are still strong enough for today’s flooding and drainage problems.
In today’s opinion section, Colby Smith-Hynes argues that judicial elections should focus on qualifications, experience, temperament, and respect for the rule of law rather than political-style negativity.
Meet a quiet and charming 4-year-old tabby who may need a little patience, but could become a loving companion in the right calm and caring home.
In our last poll 80% of you said you stayed around town over Memorial Day weekensd with only 20% gong out of town! Let’s see how things shake out in this new poll we have!

Opinions
In this opinion piece, Colby Smith-Hynes argues that judicial elections should be centered on qualifications, experience, temperament, and respect for the rule of law rather than political-style negativity. The piece makes the case that personal attacks in judicial races can weaken public confidence in the courts and distract voters from what matters most when choosing who should serve on the bench.
Weather
Weather forecasts can change quickly. Readers should check local conditions and official alerts before making outdoor or travel plans.
Government Meetings
Adoptable Pet of the Week
Meet our quiet and charming friend, ID# 831051.
This beautiful 4-year-old brown and black Domestic Short Hair tabby may not be the first cat to demand your attention — but she just might be the one who steals your heart.
She’s a shy girl who prefers cozy hiding spots, especially her favorite donut tunnel, where she waits patiently for someone kind enough to notice her. While she may not “pick you” right away, we believe that with love, patience, and a calm home, she’ll slowly blossom into a confident and affectionate companion.
Shelter life can be overwhelming with all the unfamiliar sounds, smells, and activity, so she’s hoping someone will give her the chance to feel safe and loved again.
Her $135 adoption fee includes:
- Vaccinations
- Deworming
- Flea & tick treatment
- Microchip
- Spay
Sometimes the quiet ones are simply waiting for the right person to find them. Could that person be you?
