Know when, where, why, and how to vote. It is your constitutional right and civic obligation!
As Missourians, one of the most important rights we possess is the right to vote. Men and women throughout our nation’s history sacrificed greatly to preserve and expand that right, and every election gives us the opportunity to honor that legacy by participating in our democracy.
With the August Primary approaching, now is the time for every eligible voter in Jefferson County to make sure they are registered and prepared to cast a ballot.
The Missouri Secretary of State’s office provides an easy way to register to vote, verify your registration, update your address, and learn more about voting requirements. Residents can visit Go Vote Missouri or directly access the registration page at Missouri Voter Registration Portal. Missouri law requires voter registration applications to be submitted by the July 8, 2026, for the August primary election.
Voting is more than a civic duty — it is a voice. Local elections often determine issues that directly affect our families, schools, roads, law enforcement, courts, and communities. Every vote contributes to shaping the future of Jefferson County and the State of Missouri.
Unfortunately, many citizens skip elections because of work obligations, vacations, illness, caregiving responsibilities, or other unavoidable conflicts on Election Day. That is why absentee voting is such an important part of the process. Absentee voting ensures that citizens who cannot physically appear at the polls still have the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Missouri voters who expect to be absent from their polling place on Election Day or who qualify for another approved reason may request an absentee ballot through the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, the phone number is 636-797-5486, the office is located in Hillsboro at the Administration Building. Information about absentee voting, eligibility requirements, and deadlines can be also be found through Missouri Absentee Voting Information.
Whether you choose to vote in person on Election Day or by absentee ballot, participation matters. Our system of government functions best when citizens are informed, engaged, and active participants in the electoral process.
Jefferson County has always benefited from strong community involvement and civic pride. Let us continue that tradition by making sure we are registered, informed, and ready to vote in the August Primary.
