Jefferson County Primary Produces Decisive Victories and Razor-Thin Finishes
Tim Whitney wins the Republican county executive contest, David Frank edges Anthony Ruble, and Jaclyn Riebold finishes first in an exceptionally close county clerk primary
Winners & Key Results
  • Strong turnout: Jefferson County recorded 49,893 ballots from 165,427 registered voters, producing turnout of 30.2 percent.
  • Republican county executive: Tim Whitney defeated John Stockton with nearly 66 percent of the vote.
  • Democratic county executive: David Frank defeated Anthony Dwayne Ruble by only 132 votes.
  • County clerk: Jaclyn Riebold finished 111 votes ahead of Brent Myers in a Republican contest where only 175 votes separated first place from third place.
  • Circuit clerk: Mike Reuter won the three-candidate Republican primary with 47.63 percent.
  • Judicial races: Michelle Hughes finished first in the three-way Division 15 contest, while Renee Reuter won Division 12.
  • County Council: John T. Parker, Lori Arons, Timothy Bennett, and Bob Tullock finished first in their respective Republican primaries.
  • County Proposition T: Jefferson County voters rejected the proposal with nearly 63 percent voting no.
  • Four-day school week: Sunrise R-IX voters approved a four-day school week with nearly 70 percent support.

Jefferson County voters went to the polls Tuesday, August 4, selecting party nominees for county government, the Missouri General Assembly, Congress, and the courts while deciding several state and local ballot questions.

According to unofficial election-night results from the Jefferson County Election Authority, 49,893 ballots were counted from 165,427 registered voters, resulting in turnout of 30.2 percent. All 53 precincts were reporting, and absentee and in-person ballots were listed as complete when the report was published.

The evening produced a combination of decisive victories and remarkably close contests. Tim Whitney comfortably captured the Republican nomination for county executive, while David Frank’s victory in the Democratic primary came by just 132 votes.

The Republican county clerk race was even more tightly packed. Jaclyn Riebold, Brent Myers, and Steve Wyatt Earp each received slightly more than 33 percent of the vote, with only 175 votes separating first place from third place.
