From the Editorās Desk
This edition of The Jefferson Review is packed with the kind of local stories that remind us why community journalism matters. From regional crime enforcement with direct Jefferson County stakes, to mayors raising alarms over state legislation, to another packed Festus City Council meeting, this weekās newsletter takes readers inside the conversations shaping our county.
We are also proud to welcome our first partner. A big thank you to The Common Ground in Festus for supporting local journalism and helping make it possible for The Jefferson Review to continue telling the stories of Jefferson County. Their support means more local coverage, more community voices, and more attention on the people, businesses, and decisions that matter close to home.
A major FBI-led operation took guns, drugs, and wanted suspects off the streets across the St. Louis region, and Undersheriff Tim Whitney explains why that matters here at home.
A Jefferson County provision tucked into state legislation has local mayors concerned about what could come next, and Moritz brought that warning directly to the county council.
Festus City Hall was packed again as residents pressed leaders on major issues, while Tom Vogel and the Festus Main Street Association highlighted a project aimed at lighting up downtown.
Tara Lang sees Jefferson Countyās housing, transportation, food, mental health, and resource gaps up close, and she is challenging the community to start building real solutions together.
This edition also features a new opinion piece on judicial temperament, the Jefferson County forecast, upcoming government meetings, community events, and a sweet shepherd mix girl waiting for her person.

County Dispatch
Operation VIPER took 91 suspects, 36 guns, and major drug seizures off the streets across the St. Louis region. But Undersheriff Tim Whitney says the real story for Jefferson County is what may have been stopped before it ever crossed our county line.
A state bill meant to help St. Joseph has Jefferson County mayors sounding the alarm. Arnold Mayor Bill Moritz told the county council the local provision should be vetoed before it creates a bigger fight.
Festus City Hall was packed again as residents pressed leaders over the data center fight, recall petitions, public comment rules, and the vacant Ward Two seat. But amid the heated debate, Tom Vogel of the Festus Main Street Association brought forward a downtown project aimed at lighting up Main Street, supporting local businesses, and giving Festus a new reason to stay open after dark.
Those Who Serve
Tara Lang sees Jefferson Countyās housing, transportation, food, mental health, and resource gaps up close through her work as a community health navigator. In this Those Who Serve profile, Lang challenges local leaders, churches, nonprofits, schools, police, libraries, and residents to get into the community, listen to people who are struggling, and start building real solutions together.
Opinions
In this opinion piece, Colby Smith-Hynes argues that voters should look beyond campaign labels, endorsements, and political affiliations when evaluating candidates for the bench. The article makes the case that judicial temperament (patience, humility, fairness, professionalism, and restraint) is one of the most important qualities a judge can bring to the courtroom.

Weather forecasts are subject to change. Readers should check updated local forecasts before making outdoor plans.

Adoptable Pet of the Week
Hi there⦠do you happen to need a friend? Because I would really, really love to be one. Iām a happy, sweet shepherd mix girl, around 3ā4 years old, and if thereās one thing you should know about me, itās that I love people. Like⦠REALLY love people. Iāve never met a stranger on two legs ā every person I see is automatically my new best friend and potential petting buddy.
Treats? Eh, I could take āem or leave āem. Sometimes Iāll snack, sometimes Iāll pass. But pets? Oh yes. Ear scratches, belly rubs, cuddles, holding hands while we watch TV⦠thatās the good stuff. I also love going for walks so I can meet even more humans who might tell me Iām pretty.
Now, other dogs and cats? Well, theyāre a little weird, if Iām being honest. Iād much rather hang out with my people than worry about furry roommates. My perfect home is one where I can be your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your most loyal girl. Give me love, a cozy spot beside you, and plenty of pets, and Iāll give you my whole heart forever.
My ID# is 828149 and my adoption fee is only $50. I am spayed, up to date on my vaccines, been treated for fleas/ticks, been dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Come pet me today!
