Those Who Serve

A Birthday Tribute to Ken Jenner a Man Who Has Spent His Life Showing Up

A father, servant, encourager, and steady presence for his family, church, and community.

Family means everything to him, and anyone who knows him has likely felt the weight and warmth of that truth. He is the kind of man who has confidence in you when you do not have confidence in yourself. He sees the best in people, notices the potential they may not yet see, and quietly helps foster it until they begin to believe it too.

He is the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, the food out of his pantry, or the car in his garage. On the worst days, he is the one you run to. On the best days, he is the one you want beside you. He will stand shoulder to shoulder with you whether you are weathering the storm or basking in the sunshine.

He loves the peace of the beach and the thrill of a motorcycle ride. He has never met a stranger and has never shied away from hard work. He is the man who will mow your yard while you are in the hospital, stop to pet your dog, and come into work on his day off because his youngest customer came in dressed like him for Halloween.

“He is the kind of man who can find the good in every moment, and will sit with you until you see it too.” LC

He is the kind of husband who will dance with his wife in the kitchen, love her with steadiness and laughter, and still give his all to beat her in any competition they take on together. Some games have been outlawed because of the conflict just the mere mention creates.

He loved having daughters and was proud they could keep up with the boys. He coached every team, sat through every musical, and has been proud of everything they have ever made. His humor is never at the expense of others. He may have a sharp wit, but he is slow to anger, quick to laugh, and always ready with a hug.

And now, as a grandpa, he has embraced that role with the same joy, patience, and wholehearted love that has marked every other part of his life. He loves every minute of it. Whether he is playing, teaching, teasing, encouraging, or cheating for his grand kids at pass the trash; being a grandpa seems to fit him perfectly. It has given him another way to do what he has always done best: show up, love deeply, and make the people around him feel safe, seen, and cherished.

Some memories capture him perfectly, like racing into the house after the family got home, hiding somewhere inside, and waiting for the first person to find him. Whoever did got a scare, a hug, and a victory.

His life has also been marked by service. He cared for his parents through dementia and was the apple of his mother’s eye. He leads multiple Bible studies, serves on his church welcome team, leads a weekly men’s prayer breakfast, serves on the church security team, takes part in prison ministry, and helped start a ministry for the seasoned members of the church.

Through the years, he has served as a deacon, elder, program director, sports manager, coach, mentor, prayer warrior, host home, and financial supporter for churches, the community, and nonprofits.

On his birthday, the best tribute is also the simplest: thank you for showing up, for believing in others, for serving faithfully, and for loving your family with strength, humor, patience, and joy. Happy birthday to a man who has spent his life making everyone around him better.

Happy Birthday, Ken Jenner. You are treasured beyond words! Love all your girls...and their boys too.
